Will taking a lower-paid boutique role hurt my future MBB salary?
I'm considering a boutique consulting role in a lower-paying market as a stepping stone toward MBB later. If my current salary is much lower, will MBB anchor future compensation to that salary, or is pay mainly determined by the role and office I eventually join?

To specifically answer your question about MBB pay - this is region specific. I.e. the region you apply to, not where you are applying from.
For example, an MBB Consultant in the same role in the NYC office will receive the same salary whether they applied from Kenya or from Germany.
