How much time should I take for brainstorming in a case?
For a mid-case brainstorming question, should I ask for a full minute to think or respond much faster? I'm also unsure how many layers deep the structure should go and what I'm supposed to do after I've presented the ideas.

For any brainstorming mid-case (i.e. not the begining) 1 minute is way too long! You should really be aiming for 10-15 seconds.
You should first summarize at one layer, but then go a second layer deep. "Layers" here really just mean that you're structuring your thinking.
So now I'm confused :). When you say "Brainstorming part" of the interview do you mean the framework or do you mean midway through the case? After brainstorming and after framework you should have a view as to where to go next (however, with McKinsey they should direct you)
