For a consulting career, should I choose the better internship title or the better work?
I'm choosing between two internships at large luxury groups. Eventually I want to do a strategy master's and move into strategy consulting.
The first is an assistant consumer market intelligence role in travel retail. It involves market and customer research, identifying growth opportunities, tracking competitors, supporting brand decisions and managing research studies.
The second is an assistant strategic project manager role. I'd help prepare management presentations and strategic plans, analyse competitive intelligence, monitor transformation KPIs and work on a transformation project with my manager. Possible projects include benchmarking, a launch methodology, a loyalty programme or production-chain analysis.
The second title sounds closer to strategy. Based on the actual work, which looks like the better stepping stone?

I view this in two ways:
Appearance (Title)
Experience (Substance)
The 2nd offer sounds really nice/important (good title on your resume) BUT the role doesn't sound all that great (substance). It seems like you'll be sort of left to the side and not have important roles.
The 1st offer doesn't sound like strategy, but it truly is! So, the experience bullet points would be fantastic on your resume AND you would just generally have a good experience there and learn a lot.
I vote #1.
