6. Written Cases

A Different Format, Different Demands
The written case — used most prominently at Bain — tests the same underlying analytical skills as a standard case interview, but under fundamentally different conditions. You're working independently, under a strict time limit, with a large volume of material to process. The candidates who struggle aren't usually weak analytically — they haven't understood what the format is actually testing or how to approach it.
Key Principles and Chart-Heavy Cases
The course covers the core principles of written case performance, including how to triage information efficiently, how to structure your output clearly under time pressure, and how to identify and prioritise the analysis that matters. A dedicated module on chart-heavy written cases addresses the most demanding variant of the format — where the ability to extract and synthesise insight from exhibits quickly is the primary differentiator.
Preparation That Transfers
The discipline required to perform well in a written case — working fast, prioritising ruthlessly, communicating clearly with limited time — reinforces your broader case performance. Candidates who prepare seriously for this format typically become sharper across every other interview component as well.
